Florence Irene "Flo" Hazel - The death of Florence Irene "Flo" Hazel
occurred in Kentville on January 5, 2015 at the age of 95. She was a
daughter of Harriet and Harold Jodrey of Northport, Cumberland County. She
graduated from Amherst Academy and Provincial Normal College, Truro and
enjoyed several years of teaching. In later years she was involved with
Laubac Literacy and taught reading and writing skills to adults. She was a
member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville for many
years, where she taught Sunday School and was a leader with C.G.I.T. She was
a member of the Ken-Wo Bridge Club and the Glooscap Curling Club, where she
was a Past President of the Ladies Division. While living in both Kentville
and Wolfville, Flo enjoyed gardening for many years and loved nothing more
than cooking and baking every day and having family and friends for dinner.
She and Rocky took particular delight in the annual musical evenings with
friends and musicians, Alan, Bill and Roy. She is survived by her husband,
Rocky and three children, son, Frank and wife, Gail; two daughters, Irene
Hazell and Anne MacKinnon; son-in-law, Dr. Brian MacKinnon; seven
grandchildren, Matthew Hazel (Keeli), Emily Leach(Mark), Jan and Sarah
(Chad) Sarsfield, Jesse (Jean), Alex and Scott MacKinnon; three great
grandchildren, Bradley, Lauren and William Leach; one step-granddaughter,
Maxine Bruce; a sister, Laura Barkhouse; numerous nieces and nephews. In
addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Robson and David
Jodrey; sisters, Isobel Fitzpatrick, Dr. Louise Hagedorn, Ann Ross and
Marion Cameron. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or
public funeral service, by request. Donations in memory may be made to one
of the many charities Flo supported - among her favorites, the Red Cross,
Salvation Army, Doctors Without Borders and World Vision. The family wishes
to thank the staff of Wedgewood House, Kentville, for their wonderful
support and care over the past year. Interment will take place at a later
date at a private ceremony in Scotch Village, Hants County. Arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
