Wednesday, September 14, 1994.
Local nursing homes were assured Saturday their residents' health
care needs will not suffer as a result of changes at the North
Cumberland Memorial Hospital.
The Town of Oxford voted here Monday night to buy an Oxford
Sawmill replica made by Leon RUSHTON of this town for $2,000.
Thirty Years Ago
Wednesday, September 5, 1984.
Oxford and Shinimicas Fire Departments were successful in saving
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert TOWER, Beckwith, on August 29.
However, several outbuildings and two barns were lost in the
blaze, which charred the house and adjoining woodshed and caused
some smoke and water damage.
Died - Charles Allan MOORE, 76, of Oxford Junction, on September
4.
Died - Mrs. Bertha Marie (Lewis) HALLIDAY, 71, Williamsdale on
September 3.

Thursday, September 5, 1974.
Died - Alonzo James FISHER, 59, of Pugwash Jct. on Thursday,
August 22 at home.

Thursday, September 3, 1964.
Mr. Curry THOMPSON and son, Calvin Thompson, are erecting a large
modern dairy barn at their farm on the Pugwash Road, Oxford.
Salt Lake, a favourite bathing spot for Oxford young people, is
being partially drained and the bottom covered with sand by the
Oxford Lions Club.

Thursday, September 2, 1954.
The 3,000 ton motor vessel Guy Bartholomew is loading a cargo of
1,200 cords of pulpwood at Wallace for Chandler, Que. It is 25
years since pulpwood was shipped from Wallace wharf.
Five Oxford girls have completed nurses training at the Halifax
Infirmary: Carolyn ROGERS, Josephine MATTINSON, Marion and
Florence COVE and Betty WELLS.
Died - At East Leicester on August 28, Mrs. Charles PURDY, 88.

2, 2014. Born in Wallace Bay, son of the late Jorgen and Helga
(Bekker) Jorgensen. Surviving are wife Jane (Demings); sons
Kenneth James (Dannielle), Hamilton, ON; Isaac Jorgen, Toronto,
ON; sister Bernice Duynisveld, Wallace Bay; brothers George
(Hazel), AMherst; Henry (Jean), England and sister-in-law Joyce,
Bracebridge, ON. Predeceased by brothers Nils, Viggo and Hans;

QUINN, Marjorie Joann, 68, River Philip, passed away Saturday,
September 6, 2014. Born in Oxford, daughter of the late Clarence
G. and Lucinda M. (Roblee) Dykens. Survived by her husband of
over 51 years, Robert; children, Crystal (Lester) Hunter, and
Michael (Ann) Quinn, both of Springhill; sister, Patsy Smith (John
Hachey), Springhill. Predeceased by sisters, Betty Dickie,
Kathleen Dykens and Darlene Dykens; brother, Glenn R. Dykens and
brother, Dennis in infancy. (Obit has photo)
SCOTT, Joan Alechia, Truro and Wallace Bridge passed away Friday,
September 5, 2014. Born in West Gore, Hants County, youngest
daughter of the late Hope and Roberta McPhee. Predeceased by
husband Herb, sisters Lois and Helen. Survived by son, David
(Fran Dobson), Dartmouth, and daughter, Roberta (Joel Mills),
Chester; brothers, Edward, Robert, Ross, Karl, John, Billy;
