The Canadian Salt Co. Ltd. has bought the abandoned CN rail line from the mine to Route 6 and is constructing a road along it to the mine terminal.

King Copper Mining Corporation, which holds mineral rights on 222 square miles in the Oxford area, is offering shares for sale at New York.

The Oxford Journal, which was located on Water St. for many years, has moved to larger quarters in the former Oxford Garage on Rideau St.

Thursday, August 27, 1944.

John HASTIE, age 17, of Upper Dorchester, lost his life by drowning at the upper breakwater, Oxford, on August 13.

Seven large buildings including two stores, three dwellings and six smaller structures, were destroyed by fire at River Hebert on August 13, with loss estimated at $50,000.

Seven building were destroyed by fire at River John on August 16, with loss estimated at $15,000.

SCOTT, Marian Alberta (Brown), Royal Court, Riverview, NB, passed away August 17, 2014, formerly of Oxford Junction.  Born in Kemptown, NS, the 8th child of 13, daughter of the late Daniel and Rachael (Christie) Brown.  Survived by 6 children; Shirley Nauss, Riverview, NB; Carolyn Scott, Truro; Nettie (David) Soley, Economy; Carl, Cobble Hill, BC; Ross (Sharon), Riverview, NB; Dennis (Joan) Clarsholm, AB; and a sister Bertha Langille, Barass Corner.  Predeceased by her husband Charles in 1996; siblings, Gertrude Hilder, Albert, Andrew, Margaret Hoare, Jean Shaw, Fred, Edward, Donald, Alex, Rev. Wilena Brown, Eva MacCrae and 2 grandchildren, Michael Tipping and Carol Ann Nauss.  (Obit has photo)

MAZUR, Ivy Elizabeth, 77, Oxford, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014.  Born in Halifax, daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Whiley) Payne.  Missed by daughters, Wendy (Dean) Brown, Parrsboro; Cindy (Ian) MacDonald, Oxford; and Mary (Rob) Steeves, Lakeview; sons, Wayne (Cathy Mills), Oxford; and Tony (Elaine), River Philip.  Last surviving member of her immediat family.  Predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Frederick Mazur.  (Obit has photo)

DUNBAR, Jennie Lorraine, passed away in Pugwash Hospital on August 19, 2014.  Born in Port Howe on April 12, 1928, daughter of the late Alexander and Laura (MacKay) Dunbar.  Survived by nephew, Doug Sarson, Port Howe, and two nieces, Pat Knol, Amherst, and Laura Sarson, Moncton.  Predeceased by a sister, Helen Sarson, and a brother, Oran Dunbar.
