Re: Murray W. Hughes family

Benjamin W. Hughes is Great great Grandpa. My father was listed as Murray Jr. in my Grandfather's obit.  My Father was Murray Wallace Hughes born July 29 1954 in Montreal. Died in Smokey Lake Alberta Sept 27 2003.  I was told my uncle Rene died before my father, but was listed as alive when my Grandfather died in 1993. As far as I know all the children do all belong to both Murray W. Hughes Sr. and wife Ida. I was told Ida died at 49 years old in Ontario. they were not living together anymore.

Hi Cody-lee:

Wow, you’ve sure got you’re genealogical work cut out for you.

Just for clarification, what was your father’s name who died about 2003? Are all the children by Murray Wallace Hughes and Ada (?)

If it turns out Douglas F. Hughes is your uncle, Great, that’s one sibling accounted for.  Your grandfather, Murray Wallace Hughes’ obit didn’t mention your father or sons, Rene and Richard, just Yvonne [Bonnie?], Deborah, Douglas and Ronald.

I’m just asking basic questions trying to zero in on a simple genealogical time line of events similar to some of the Police/Detective TV Shows. These create extra clues to work with and help eliminate errors. There are over 500 subscribers to nscumber who monitor this site regularly from all across the country. I’m sure someone has something in their files to help once we have a clear picture of who’s who in your family tree.

Thank You to all of you for your help. My father left my mother before I was born. I only had two pictures of him. I put his picture on facebook looking for him. 3 weeks later one of his ex-wives phoned me and told me my father has been deceased for 10 years. She was only married to him for 5 years in the early 1990's. She was able to give me some information about my aunts and uncles, what she could remember anyway from so long ago. I know that my father had 4 brothers Doug, Rene, Ronald, Richard, and 2 sisters Bonnie and Debroah. I have been told my father had two son before me named Murray Wallace Hughes the 3rd. (WALLY) and Eugene. I was told they were put up for adoption in Ontario. I also know I have a younger sister named Cindy Hughes born in 1985. From what I can figure out if this Doug Hughes in London Ontario that has passed away is uncle , that means the only one of the boys still alive would be Richard Hughes. and the two sister. I was told that my Grandmother died at 49 years old, but without a maiden name I am stuck on her family.
I am so glad there are so many great people out there like all of you who are willing to help. Thank you again.

Hi Fran:

Thanks for your kind offer.

I have a double dose of Hatfield mixed into my Winter/s tree in addition to Morris and Cochrane.

Is there anything in the Bible as death dates for William Joyce, born 1827 and/or his wife, Catherine Hatfield, born 1842?

Anything on their son, Thomas Joyce, born 17 Sep 1865?

The others, I pretty much have a handle on as to when they were born, when they died, and who/when/where they married etc.

I am a descendent of the Hughes and was given the old family Bible a few years ago. I hoped that I could help you, but wanted to let you know that none of the names you mentioned are in it. The dates are from the 1800's .  If I can look for any dates in what I have, please let me know.

To my knowledge, Murray Wallace Hughes still  has two full sisters living in or near the Parrsboro area.

Eileen  Gladys Hughes, Mrs. Kenneth MacAloney, about age 84, and Eudora Allison  Hughes, Mrs. James Richard MacAloney, about age 78.

I believe Murray’s  9 half-siblings are now all deceased.

Try a 411 search for telephone  numbers for Eileen Gladys and Eudora Allison. I would think they would know  who their brother married/when/where if you contacted them and knowing you  were a great niece.

In 1948, Murray appears to be single living at home  in Diligent River when his father died. Four years later, 1952, Murray is in  Ont. Also in 1948, Allison is still single, living at home, Diligent River  while Eileen has m/1 [1946] Lawrence  Waldo Joyce. This marriage may have  ended in a divorce as Eileen is believed to have children from both  marriages.

While  not your grandmother’s maiden name, might this be your uncle Douglas Hughes  in London, Ontario?

There appears to be a photo of him on the  website.

You haven’t revealed much about yourself or immediate family  to give any of us clues to search with. Did your grandmother die in Ontario?  When did she die? Did she return to N.S. with your grandfather and die here  after 1986? These would also be helpful clues to work  with.

I  am looking for any information on my Grandfathers family. I do not know  his wife's maiden name, just that her name was Ida. My Grandfather Murray  W. Hughes son of James Nelson Hughes and Patricia Allen Born March 22  1931- Died Feb 6 1993. I have been able to trace my Grandpa's family back  to 1700's. But I am not having any luck with finding his wife's maiden  name. It is so hard to go any further with out  that.
