Re: Omen Lewis

Title: Re: [nscumber] Omen Lewis

Sorry, I have no ideas other than create a new file card for him in your program and enter the data. Later, one maybe able to do a match & merge, attaching him to someone else.

Great you were able to get to read “The History of Parrsboro”, written in 1900.

If not deeply into genealogy with a large Parrsboro and area data base, it’s somewhat hard to follow at times with the way it’s written. It’s amazing the genealogical information the author/historian had in 1900 when everything would have been on paper and no computers.

There are a few surname misprints in it like on the last page or so there’s a reference to Rowden which would possibly be Bowden.

There is a James Lewis that died in West Brook on 12 April 1870 at the age of 85 [1785], son of Jesse and Jerushia. The informant was Alexander Lewis. I can't seem to fit him in. Any ideas?

Dave, I found the history of Parrsboro on the GenWeb site. It really helped to piece this family together. Thank you

Eric:

Thanks again.

Haven’t found James Omen Lewis’s death but Belle Fife died 22 Nov 1931 at Pugwash and she was widowed so James Omen died before 1931. Her death record indexed as Omer but filled out as Mrs. Omen Lewis. Birth filled in as Can – U.S.A. by son, Archie which is odd.

Mary Elizabeth (1873-
Thomas Edward "Ned" (1875-
William Jesse (1877-
Charles Henry Skidmore (1878-1966)
Frances Luella (1881-

with Amelia Cora Belle Fife:

Archibald John (1890-1974)
Ralph (1893-
Elsie (1894-1974)
Nancy (1900-1909)

Steve:

Thanks. That makes sense.

What government records can you trust these days?

At least the family is moving away from the use of so many Caleb’s, Jesse’s and Oman’s.

Hi Dave
I believe that the second William may have been a mistake. Archie John Lewis's late birth registration states he was born 17 Apr. 1890 in Lakelands to Oman Lewis and Bella Fife.

Odd Omen would name a second son William.

Omen was m/1 Nancy Skidmore with issue of William Jesse Lewis.

Then widower, Omen m/2 Belle Fife with issue of William.

Secondly, from the 1881 census, Omen and Nancy have children, Thomas Edward,
William Jesse, Mary M., and Charles H.

Yet, there's a registered birth for a Mary Elizabeth Lewis, born 6 Dec 1873
at Parrsboro with the same parents, Omen Lewis and Nancy Skidmore.

Did the first Mary die and they recycled the name?
