Mrs. Nancy J. Smith
TRURO, Nov. 30 - The funeral of the late Mrs. Nancy J. Smith, of Moose River, widow of C. W. Smith, took place on Tuesday November 23, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Moose River, Cumberland County, and was largely attended by relatives and friends.
Mrs. Smith was born in Economy, daughter of the late Levi and Ellen Faulkner, 87 years ago. Previous to her illness she served the Moose River community as post mistress for 53 years, in recognition of which she received the Silver Jubilee Medal from the late King George V in 1935. She was a faithful member of the Church of England and will be remembered by her many friends for her charitable and cheerful disposition.
She is survived by five daughters and three sons, Grayce and Earle at home, who cared for her through a lengthy illness of five years; Carrie (Mrs. W. R. Knowlton) of Truro; Freeman, Ottawa; Vera, (Mrs. S. F. Wilson) Amherst; Estella (Mrs. C. R. Oulton), Verdun, Que.; Ralph, Halifax; Nita, (Mrs. Ivor G. Phillips) of Canning (formerly of Truro); also two sisters, Mrs. Annie Thompson, Economy; and Mrs. Robinson Cox, Bible Hill; and one brother, George Faulkner, Lower Economy. A sister Mrs. Seldon Fletcher, Bass River, passed away recently.
The service was conducted by the rector, Rev. W. R. Anthony, assisted by Mrs. Robert Gibson at the organ, and members of the choir. Hymns sung were, "The Lord's My Shepherd," "Forever With the Lord," and "There is No Night in Heaven." Pallbearers were William Roberts, Frank L. Roberts, Ronald Roberts, Langston Roberts, Glenford Dowe and Fred Cooke.
Many floral tributes as well as letters and cards testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held by her many friends.
