Beulah B. Kimball, 88, of 100 State St. died Thursday at a South Portland nursing home.
She was born in Milbridge, a daughter of Alder B. and Rose Anna Moffitt Jeffers, attended schools there and graduated from Milbridge High School.
Mrs. Kimball worked for General Marine Construction Corp., retiring in 1977.
She was a charter member of the South Portland Memorial Amvets where she served as president for 10 years. She was also a member of the State Department of Amvets Auxiliary where she held many offices.
An active parliamentarian, she was a member of the National Association and the American Institute of Parliamentarians and a charter member of the Maine State Association and the Thomas B. Reed local unit.
A member of the Foster Grandparent program since 1977, she worked with the Adult Basic Learning Exchange for more than 20 years.
She went to Washington, D.C., to visit the White House and to have lunch with former first lady Nancy Reagan on the 20th anniversary of the Foster Grandparent program.
A longtime volunteer, she was awarded the Elder Circle Award for volunteerism and the Amvets Distinguished Service Award. She was also nominated twice for the Jefferson Award and received Foster Grandparent awards for distinguished service.
She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church and the Salvation Army.
Her husband, Lewis W. Kimball, died in 1965 and a son, William L. Kimball, died in 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Peter J. and Thomas F., both of South Portland; a sister, Myrtle J. Iveney of Northeast Harbor; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Anglican Church.
