Born: December 25th, 1923 Passed in: SydneyPassed on: November 10th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Noel Vanderlinden on Sunday, November 10 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Oscar and Marie (Bartels) Vanderlinden. He volunteered to serve our country in World War II for 3.5 years in Italy, Germany and Holland. He worked for over 40 years as a coal miner in 26 Colliery and Lingan Colliery. Dad was an avid gardener and card player and he also loved to cook. He will be remembered for his generosity and keen sense of humor. He loved to play cribbage at the Dominion Hawks Community Club where he had many friends. Dad was happiest when surrounded by family. He is survived by his children Donna, Sydney, Betty (Tom Orgar), BC, Mary (Mike Raoul), Windsor, NS, Patricia (Blair Tobin), Ont., Jimmy (Joan), Dominion, Lois (Jaime Martell), Sydney, John (Sheri), Ont., Joan (Ken Brake), BC and Karen (Jimmy Miles), Dominion; he is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy Gillis; son Noel Oscar; grandson, Thomas Noel Orgar; sisters, Hortense, Laura, Val, Mary Jane and infant brother Auguste. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, November 16 at 11a.m. at St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. The Rev. Daniel Boudreau will be officiating. All are welcome, following the mass, to the parish hall for a reception.  Donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Nursing Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
