Re: Josephine Isabel (Cole) Parker

Hi Steve:

The late Jack Wagstaff has Lena Evelyn Cole in his file as “unattached”; born 1909; deceased 7 Nov 1986, Great Village.

I’ll add the name to the bucket list for possibly next week for an obit.

Hi Steve:

I’m thinking along the same mindset as you.

Mary Ann Cole didn’t m/1 widower, Thomas Roach Canning until 13 Nov 1920. The rest of the Cole and Wood siblings were already married or deceased before about 1914 so there’s a possibility Josephine was the illegitimate d/o Mary Ann Cole and brought up by her uncle (Wells Cole) and his wife, Clara L. Wood. Lena Evelyn was also possibly the illegitimate d/o Mary Ann Cole per the 1911 Census.

Another year or so there should be a registered birth on the NSARM Vitals and we’ll know for sure with Josephine.

As for Lena Evelyn Cole and her delayed registered birth application, if Sophie Ells was her birth mother, she would have been age 59 when Lena Evelyn was born and highly unlikely. Lena is listed as a gd/o on the 1911 Census.

Lena Evelyn Cole may possibly be living with her birth mother, Mary Ann (Cole) Canning in 1952 per Thomas Roach Canning’s obit below.

And people say they can trace their roots back 400 years!

Dave

Good work Dave
I tried but couldn't find her. I am thinking that her mother was Mary Ann Cole, Wells sister. I have a hunch that Josephine be may a sister to Lena Evelyn Cole, born.23 Feb 1909 in Port Greville.

On the 1921 Cumberland Census, she's listed as a niece of Wells Cole and
Clara Wood.

Wells and Clara were married about 17 years before she was born.
