Then, on Attestation Papers, he was discharged Nov 1915 as a WWI deserter. Maybe why he went Stateside?

Steve:

I have her Hubby as Lester Davis.

Per her father’s 1940 obit, she was Miss Gertrude Pettis, R.N., of Boston. Gertrude, Marjorie and Sadie were all in Boston in 1940.

Marjorie must be Mrs. Richard Follett Spear by process of elimination.

OBITUARY: Henry F. Pettis
Following an illness of several months, the death of Henry Freeman Pettis occurred at his home on Spring Street early Saturday morning. Born at Diligent River 74 years ago, a son of the late Hiram and Sarah Glennie Pettis, he was a life-long and highly esteemed resident of Parrsboro. He was long been associated with the business life of the town, and also for many years successfully conducted a farm on Western Avenue until his retirement from this work some years ago when he purchased a residence on Spring Street. Always taking a keen interest in present day affairs, as well as possessing a good memory for reminiscences, he will be much missed by a wide circle of friends, who for years have called at his shop for a friendly chat. A keen follower of horse racing in the days of the local track, the late Mr. Pettis has always been a familiar figure at the county meets. He leaves to mourn their loss - his wife, the former Miss Bertha Morris of Advocate; nine sons and three daughters - Wylie of Yucca, Arizona; Frank of Denver, Colorado; Thornton, Lorne and Murray of New York; Norris of Winnipeg; Harry of Prince George, B.C.; Glen of Erskine, Alta.; Fred of Truro; Miss Gertrude Pettis, RN, Miss Marjorie Pettis, RN and (Sadie) Mrs. T.E. MacRae, all of Boston. A brother, Fred Pettis of New Glasgow, also survives. It was possible for most of the family to visit their father during the last few months while he was in failing health and Lorne, Murray, Fred and the three daughters were at home when his death occurred. The funeral service, which was largely attended, was held in St. George's Church yesterday afternoon, with Rev. C.R. Harris officiating. Interment was in the Anglican Cemetery. The pallbearers were: V.B. Fullerton,KC, Chief of Police, W.H. Moore, Percy McNamara, A.R. Howard, William MCKay and Harvey MacAloney. There were many beautiful flowers and other expressions of sympathy.

He enlisted with a Winnipeg regiment, and following his return from Overseas service, accompanied by his English war bride, he visited his parents in Parrsboro. He then took up his residence in Alberta where for years he has been engaged in cattle ranching and conducted a business in the town of Erskine. Gertrude was the d/o Henry Freeman Pettis and Bertha Castera Morris. Not sure of the first entry unless she was married twice. Did not find anything on husband, L.M. Davis. Not enough to go on.
