ALBERT H. T. PETTIS
Published: August 28, 1983

Albert H. T. Pettis, director of the St. Francis Residence in Manhattan, died of cancer Thursday at his Manhattan home.

He was 49 years old.

Mr. Pettis, a social worker, directed the shelter for the homeless since its founding in 1980 by a group of Franciscan Friars and lay people. The shelter is in a former hotel on West 24th Street. It has been cited by the Community Service Society, a nonprofit social- service group, as a model shelter for the homeless.
