Hi Clemm:

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Yes, once the Age of Sail started dying out and there were no more virgin forest left to harvest in south western Cumberland County, families started migrating.

With just lumbering, as a hobby genealogist, I can see a movement of lumbermen related trades and their families from the Parrsboro Shore moving to say Pleasant Hills, Colchester County, then on to Debert and Riversdale areas in Colchester County if Tuberculosis didn’t get them first.

Many others migrated straight to the New England States, prospered very well in the factories, and then sponsored and encouraged other family members to move there as well.

Hey, maybe if the U.S. Feds keep on not paying many of their Federal employees involved in this current financial crisis and another Recession hits them, some will start migrating back up north where we do have health care at least, be what it is. LOL.

Yes, many Loyalists returned to USA because they found  life too hard in "Nova Scarcity"

Hi Steve:

Thanks for these.

This year our provincial politicians were complaining about the outsourcing of people as we continue to lose people from Nova Scotia per the last census data. We now have over 1,000 less people in Nova Scotia than the year before.

>From a genealogical perspective, this phenomenon has been going on for well over 125 years as more and more Nova Scotian’s either head west or south in search for better jobs and living conditions.

Many early settlers came to Nova Scotia from the United States as United Empire Loyalist in order to remain loyal to King George yet 100 years later, their descendents start migrating back to the United States.

My observations only.

Dave
