Charlotte Irene Beaton 1936-2013
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Charlotte Irene (Zirngiebel) Beaton , age 77 of Springhill, NS. Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 4, 2013 while being cared for at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in 1936, she was he daughter of the late Mabel (Welch) and Arthur Zirngiebel Sr. of Randolph, Massachusetts, USA and wife of the late S. Elwood Beaton of Springhill, NS.
Charlotte received her education in Randolph, Massachusetts. After graduation she went into the garment industry where she worked until moving to Nova Scotia in 1978 to marry her long time sweetheart, Elwood Beaton. Marrying later in life, Charlotte and Elwood had no children. Charlotte was an accomplished seamstress making her own clothes, as well as, her sister's wedding gown and a junior bridesmaid dress that matched the adult dresses. She was also a great cook and loved to entertain. Charlotte had a lovely singing voice, although to shy to show it off as a soloist. Charlotte was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Willing Workers, attended adult Sunday School and a number of Bible studies. Even though she was shy, Charlotte overcame that in later years when she became an outspoken opponent of strip mining in Springhill.
Charlotte is survived by her brothers Arthur Zirngiebel Jr. of Chichester, New Hampshire and George Zirngiebel Sr. and his wife Edith of Pembroke, Massachusetts; their sister Joan (Zirngiebel) Smith and her husband Les of Randolph, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her sisiters-in-law, Eleanor Beaton, Springhill, Vera Beaton of Dartmouth, Doris Beaton of New Glasgow, and Dot Henwood of Amherst; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in both Canada and the US. Charlotte is also survived by a group of wonderful, caring friends: Bev and Gary Steeves of Southampton, Betty and George Laird of Leamington, and Erdean Crowe and Laura Sherman both of Springhill. Charlotte's family is indebted to these friends for their unwavering care and concern when family could not be there. Additionally, Charlotte's family would like to recognize Audrey MacDonald of Moncton for her frequent visits and contact with the family regarding Charlotte's medical condition.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
