Here's the obituary for Thomas "Smith" Mattinson from the Jan 11, 1945 Oxford Journal:
Following a period of failing health, the death of Mr. Smith Mattinson occurred on Sunday, January 7th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maynard King, and Mr. King, Oxford, at the age of 87 years. He had been ailing for some time and was confined to his bed for about 6 weeks. The late Mr.
Mattinson was a well known and respected citizen of Mount Pleasant and enjoyed the affection of a wide circle of friends who extend sympathy to the family in their sorrow. His wife predeceased him about four months ago. Left to mourn are two daughters, (Cassie) Mrs. Maynard King, and Rebecca Mayne, of Oxford, and four sons, George and Charlie of Mt. Pleasant, and Clinton and James of Oxford, also a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Bigelow of Canning, N.S. Also surviving are 33 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. L.B. Estabrooks of the Oxford Baptist Church. "What a Friend we Have in Jesus" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Estabrooks and Mr. Estabrooks recited [the] hymn "Rock of Ages". The pallbearers were Alden Fahey, Orland Fraser, Harry King, Frank King and Clinton Mattinson. Funeral director was Mr. Henry Finley of Linden.
