Wednesday, June 25, 2003.

Jose Vineyards celebrated two milestones on Saturday, June 21.  It was in 1983 that Hans JOST, a native of Germany, was granted a license to produce wine at his Malagash winery.  It was 17 years ago this day the family opened it winery retail store on site.

The Pythian Sisters #21, Oxford, recently honoured its Sisters Willa BLACK and Mabel LOWTHER with a 40-year pin.

Died - Bryan William SCALLION, 52, Wentworth Station, June 17, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Died - Benjamin Curtis CHAMBERS, 45, Tatamagouche, June 16, at home.
Died - Mabel Beatrice MCLEOD, 89, Springhill, June 23, in Gables Lodge, Amherst.

Mrs. Creta MATTINSON was presented with a gift from her Grade 5B students at Oxford Regional Elementary.  Mrs. Mattinson is retiring after teaching for 29 years; seven at Oxford Jct., 17 at ORHS and one year at the Oxford Elementary.

Muriel WEATHERBEE, who retires this year after 24 years of teaching service, was honored by relatives and fellow teachers at the Wallace School on June 13.

Died - Raymond Frank BAXTER, 69, Oxford, June 19.

Thursday, June 28, 1973.

The official opening of the Cobequid-Yorkshire Museum was held Monday afternoon in the former Town Hall on Ellis Street.  Mrs. Llanina DONKIN conducted the opening.  Rev. Aubrey TIZZARD was the master of ceremonies.

Roland W. O'BRIEN plans to start construction on a new drug store in July to replace his former store in Pugwash which was destroyed by fire on January 8.

Re. Aubrey TIZZARD has announced his resignation as Pastor of Trinity United Church and will leave Oxford for Lakeburn, NB, in October.

Died - Charles M. MACLEAN, 77, Pugwash, June 17.
Died - Rev. Dr. Charles Wesley KEIRSTEAD, 79, former resident of Pugwash, June 20, at Needham, Mass.
Died - Vera DIXON, 61, native of Westchester, May 28, at St. Catherine's ON.

Fifty Years Ago
Thursday, June 27, 1963.

Tenders will be called soon for the construction of a fishermen's wharf at Pugwash.  Plans were announced to dredge Wallace Harbour in the near future.

Ernest WOOD, proprietor of Oxford Irving Station, was severely injured about his head when a steel barrel he was working on with an actylene torch exploded at John HENLEY's in Kolbec.

Died - J.F. Paul CHRISTENSEN, 82, Wallace Bay South, formerly of Fox Harbour and Gulf Shore, May 26, in Halifax.

Tuesday, June 30, 1953.

With the entering of David G. SWAN, B. Comm., into the firm of Davis and Swan Ltd. on June 1, three generations of the Swan family are now associated with this well-known business:  Mitchell A. SWAN, one of the founders of the firm 51 years ago; his son, Councillor Perce H. SWAN; and the latter's son, David G. SWAN.

SHIPLEY, Laurie Allison, 85, Brookdale, Friday, June 21, 2013.  Born in Brookdale, Cumberland County, son of the late Burton and Eloise (MacKay) Shipley.  Survived by daughter Teena (Kevin) Palmer, Wentworth, sons David (Bernice), Brookdale; Wendell, New Glasgow; Michael (Vicki), Little River, and Dean (Christa), Shinimicas.  Sister Freda Anderson, Fredericton, NB, and his companion Evelyn Smith.  Predeceased by his wife the former Lois Adshade and three brothers, Eldon, Wylie and Cecil.

ABRAHAM, Beatrice Winnifred, 78, Wallace, formerly of North East Margaree, Friday, June 14, 2013.  Daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Leadbetter) Abraham, Northeast Margaree.  Predeceased by brothers William, Alex, David, Arnold and sister Lila.
