Canning, Gordon - 68, Rutherford Street, Stellarton, died Thursday at home.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Archie and Mary (Rankin)
Canning. He was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, an overseas in
the Second World War, serving with North Nova Scotia Highlanders, member of
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, and North Nova Scotian Memory Club. He is
survived by his wife, the former Mina Cummings; two sons, Gordon, British
Columbia; William, at home; a daughter, Dianne (Mrs. Fred Wilsack),
Merigomish Road; two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Joseph Baxter), Dartmouth; Mrs.
Gene MacLean, Stellarton; two brothers, Chesley, Stellarton; Russell,
Westville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by
a daughter, Melita in infancy; a sister, Hazel Stewart; two half-brothers,
George Ferguson, Robert Ferguson. The body is in Eagles Funeral Home,
Westville, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m., today, where funeral will be 2 p.m.
Saturday, Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Auburn

New Glasgow for most of his life. He was a member of St. John's Presbyterian
Church, MacLennan Mountain. Fred was a plasterer and had owned Fred Wilsack
Plastering Contractor Company. Surviving are his wife, the former ***Diane
Florence (Canning) Massaro***; daughter, Judy (Bruce) MacKenzie, Ottawa;
sons, Wayne (Lisè), Moncton; Scott (Stephanie), Waterdown, Ont.; stepson,
Greg Massaro, New Glasgow; sisters, Helen (Lloyd) Jordan, MacLennan
Mountain; brothers, Joe (Doreen), Medicine Hat; Raymond, Pawtucket, R.I.;
five grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sister, Anne;
brothers, Freeman, Stanley. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in P. & K.
MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where funeral service will be held 1
p.m. Friday with Mrs. Jessie Johnson officiating. Interment in Heatherdale
Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in his memory to the Aberdeen
Palliative Care Society or Victoria Order of Nurses, New Glasgow Branch.
