MacDonald, Jessie Illean - 76, Marshdale, Pictou Co., passed away Sunday, August 19, 2001, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late John Seldon and Julia Edna (Simpson) Sullivan. In her earlier years in Pictou, she was a member of Pictou Lionetts and Emergency Measures organization. She owned a grocery store in Victory Heights for over 20 years. After moving to the country, she was employed at Riverton Residential Centre, where through her efforts on a provincial tribunal, she was able to instigate the implementation of equal wages for women's in the 1970's at the centre. Serving are her children, Arthur Ashley, Marshdale; Juliann (Richard) Thompson, Island East River; John (Leigh) MacDonald, Hamilton, Ont.; Sandy (Kate) MacDonald, Glengarry; Bonnie (Blaine) Dunbar, Halifax; grandchildren Cathy (Greg) Burgess, Ottawa; Lorie Ashley, Ottawa; Tia Ashley (Michael Barron) Marshdale; Dylan and Thomas MacDonald, Glengarry; Amy and Chad Thompson, Island East River; nephews, David (Martha) Sullivan, Edmonton; Michael (Cheryl) Sullivan, Vancouver Island; niece, Illean (Eric and Patrick), Essex, Portsmouth, England; sister-in-law, Shela Sullivan, Sidney, B.C.; friend "Lou-Lou". Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, George Sullivan (Sidney, B.C.); daughter-in-law, Sharran Anne Ashley (Marshdale). At the request of the deceased, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie University Medical Science. There will be no visitation. A public memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, in Springsville Presbyterian Church, Springville, Pictou Co., Rev. Don Shepard officiating. Burial of shes will take place at a later date in Haliburton Cemetery. A reception will follow the memorial service in the church hall. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Jessie may be made to the Intensive Care Unit Education Fund of Aberdeen Hospital, East River Road, New Glasgow or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of H. C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
