PROMINENT RETIRED VALLEY FARMER DIES

TIBBETTS, FREDERICK WESTON -- 80, Pereaux, died peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 198, in Valley Regional Hospital after a long and courageous battle with emphysema. Born July 24, 1918, in Port Greville, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Maybell (Bennett) and Wylie Tibbetts. Fred was a lifelong member of Pereaux United Baptist Church. He enjoyed a full and interesting career with over 60 years spent in mixed farming, machinery sales, carpentry and municipal service. He also served briefly in the Canadian Forces during the Second World War. Fred was well known for his energy, spirit and determination as demonstrated in his family life and in his volunteer and work career. This earnest commitment to life was most visible during his long illness. Fred is remembered as one of the driving forces behind the activities of the Canning Lions Club, serving as president, building chairman and on the board, executive and most of its standing committees. The Lions Club awarded him with its prestigious lifetime membership in recognition of his invaluable and dependable long term contribution. He was also highly involved in the Canning Rink Association and the Kent Credit Union. His love of family and community as well know, his quick wit and practical guidance will be deeply missed by his first wife, Beatrice (Rogers). He is survived by his loving companion of 30 years, Nellie Wilson; daughters, Wanda and Haris Hristopoulos, Canning; Doris and don Millett, Habitant; Sandra and Gord Crutcher, Toronto; Ellen and Graham Smith, Upper Burlington; Deanna and Russell Wyse, Lower Sackville; sons, Laurie and Debra, Sarnia, Ont.; Kenneth and Fay, Lac La Biche, Alta.; Eric and Dawna, Kentville; Morris and Leslie Wilson, St. Louis, Mo.; He was dearly loved by his 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Leulla (Bob) Schofield, Greenwich; Myrna (Don)Bowling, Sarnia, Ont; June (Clarence) Ernst, Caledonia, Ont. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Marietius Woolaver, Hulda Bennett and Evelyn Gammon; brothers, Lewis and Laurie. Visiting hours will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, October 17, in W.C. Hiltz Funeral Home, 100 Cornwallis St., Kentville. Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 18, in Pereaux United Baptist church. Private interment in Pereaux Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to Pereaux United Baptist Church, or the VON, Kings Branch. As the "Humming birds fly south under the wings of the Canada Goose" ,may his spirit soar to its final; resting place.
