Erva Madeline Smith
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our sister Erva Smith at Highcrest Nursing home, Springhill, on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Erva was born September 12, 1919 in Petigrew Settlement, a daughter of the late Walter and Essie (Henwood) Pettigrew.
Erva is survived by brothers; Ernest (Verlie) of Harrison Settlement, and Harold (Lilliam) of Macaan; sisters; Cynthia Spence of Amherst, Shirley (Allison) Smith of Parrsboro, and Nellie Ward of Economy; five grandchildren, Harry Logan of Calgary, Marion Wareham of Ontario, June Dwyer of Ontario, Jack Logan of Red Deer Alberta, and Kathleen Gowers of Ontario; Daughter-in-law, Sonny Logan; nine great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
Erva was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Springhill for may years. She was also a member of St. Andrews Wesley United Church, and the Seniors Bowling League. She received a certificate of merit for community involvement from the town of Springhill.
Erva had may hobbies, baking Knitting, sewing and she loved to quilt.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Smith; son, Robert Logan; sisters, Laura Pettigrew, Ena Duguay, and brother, Lawrence.
Special thanks to Dr. Karivelil for the many trips to Highcrest, staff and nurses for the special care. Erva loved them all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to AH Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (597-2361). Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Monday, August 19, 2013 from Noon until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm immediately following visitation, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating. Interment will take place in West Brook Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Erva may do to St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church or a charity of your choice.
