Lewis James Canning
September 3, 1924 - August 18, 2013

Lewis J. Canning, 88, of Moncton, with loving members of his family at his side, was promoted to glory from The Moncton Hospital on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Born in Parrsboro, NS, he was the son of the late Rupert and Jessie (Morris) Canning. Lewis was a former miner in Springhill, NS and was former manager of The Salvation Army Thrift Store with over 30 years of service and was a long-time member of The Moncton Citadel Community Church. Lewis enjoyed doing puzzles, taking long drives in his car, creating all types of things and spending precious time with his family.

Lewis will be sadly missed by his loving wife of over 63 years, Bertha (Welton) Canning, daughters, Major Louise Embree (Major Rick) of Tavistock, ON, Carol Harrie (Ross) of Whites Lake, NS, Lorraine Veysey (Fred) of Riverview, June Mulligan of Brampton, ON and Lt. Col. Joan Canning of Alexandria, VA, USA; son, David of Winnipeg, MB; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Walton of Amherst and Audrey Mayne (Bob) of Pettawawa, ON; brother, Bruce Canning (Diane) of Pettawawa, ON; several loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his son, Laurie (1958); sisters, Mary and Emma, brothers, Cyril, Darryl and Morris.

Resting at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) with visitation hours on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service to be held at The Moncton Citadel Community Church (20 Centennial Dr.) on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Captain Leigh Ryan officiating. Reception following the service. Interment to be held in Springhill Junction Cemetery, Springhill, NS.
