I have been looking at the few pages I saved from the census. It looked like all of the heads of families were circled or marked some way. But then there were other members of the some families too. They seem to agree with those who were employed in some way. Does this fit with what others have found?

I was wrong. It is obviously not about when a birthday occurred. This could be a really important hint into the lives of our relatives in that time. I hope we can find out what it means.

The date of the census was supposedly June 1 1921.

I can't figure it out either. I have found a great Aunt and her husband who are one day apart for birthdays May 19 and May 20. He has a bracket and she doesn't!. There are no dates on the census forms that I have found so it really wouldn't make sense to divide it up that way anyways.
Any other ideas? I have seen circles, brackets and checkmark things under the number.

Do you suppose it could mean that the birthday had already occurred that year, or that it hadn't? Just a guess.

I have taken a very quick look at the 1921 census for Oxford and for Parrsboro. In both cases, the ages for many people are contained within brackets. At first, I thought that might indicate an "estimated" age... but now realize there are far too many bracketed ages. Does anyone have a better guess?
