M. T. McLaughlin Widely Mourned
Morley T. McLaughlin, 58 Albion St., passed away suddenly Saturday evening
at Highland View Hospital where he was admitted Saturday morning. He was 73
yrs. of age, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan McLaughlin of Economy, N.S.,
where he was born. He attended the Ontario Business College in Belleville
from which he was a graduate and took a position with the National Biscuit
Co. in New York, N.Y. He then moved to Western Canada and worked in the
wheat fields for a few years. From there he went to the lumber woods in B.C.
where he was engaged in most of the positions of a large lumber company. In
1907 in Cranbrook, B.C., he married Agnes Bishop of Amherst. In 1909 he
moved to Amherst and was employed as accountant for the McLean Milling Co.
Ltd., for a short time, after which he became manager. He assumed ownership
of this company in 1930. He attended the United Church and was active in
church affairs and was on the board of stewards. He was a past chancellor of
the K. of P.'s and was a member of the Amherst Curling Club. He was an
ardent curler and enjoyed the fellowship of the club. He was on the board of
directors of the Highland Cemetery. Mr. McLaughlin was very much interested
in all types of sports and in his younger days was an active bowler and
played in many competitions throughout the Maritimes. He was a keen baseball
fan and attended many of the Amherst games. Due to health, he retired from
active business in 1946. He was a great lover of flowers and spent many
hours in his beautiful flower garden beside his home, a garden which he
prized very highly. Besides his wife, the former Agnes Bishop of Amherst, he
