Arden Maxwell Morris (September 12, 1911  -  November 23, 2012)
Morris, Arden Maxwell - It is with sadness, the family of Arden Maxwell Morris announces his passing at Grand View Manor, Berwick, on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the age of 101. Born on September 12, 1911, he was the son of Aubrey and Emily (Saunders) Morris of Melvern Square and spent all but the last three years of his life in the community of his birth. His early years were spent on the family farm with his father as well as working out with his truck and managing to still find time to pursue his passion for hockey and baseball. An early interest in mechanics and machinery led to building orchard sprayers and then employment with the Department of Highways as an equipment operator. He could recall, during this time, being involved with bringing the first "snowplow" to be used in this area out from Halifax to the garage in Middleton. Arden`s natural ability and interest in the mechanical side of things later resulted in employment as a mechanic and
welder with the highways for 28 more years. During this time he continued to work out of his shop at home maintaining his own vehicles and doing repair work of all descriptions for many members of the community. His faith was always strong and led to active and dedicated church membership throughout his life. He served in his church family as Adult Sunday School teacher and deacon for 40 years. This faith and service has left a lasting impression on us all. Following his retirement from the highways his interest turned to woodworking and for the next 20 years he would spend many hours in his shop creating and constructing a great variety of projects that would be sold or given away. Many of these items can be found in the homes of family and friends. A television in the shop during these years allowed him to follow the Expos and, later, the Blue Jays as he worked. He is survived by his dedicated and cherished wife of 72 years, Ada (Mason); daughters,
Pearl (Winston) Magee, Louisbourg; Barbara (Marvin) Messom, Port Williams; Marguerite (Gordon) Messom, New Minas; son, Aubrey (Leslie), Melvern Square; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also left to mourn are sister, Edna Morris, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Donald; sister, Rita Moody; sisters-in-law, Noreen Morris and Phyllis Morris; and brother-in-law, George Moody. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Grand View Manor for the care that they provided and the smiles they were able to generate over the past three years. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 27th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and the funeral will take place Wednesday, November 28th at 2:00 pm. with Dr. William Moorehead officiating. Both will be held at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Interment will be at the North Kingston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to

MORRIS, Perley Donald "Donnie" - 90 of Melvern Square, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Melvern Square, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Emelie (Saunders) Morris. Donnie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Donnie farmed all his life and loved to work. He loved the land and the woods and was a gifted horseman and cattleman. He was honest and hardworking and lived his life in such a way as to be an example for others and a true gentleman. He inherited these fine qualities from his parents. He is survived by his older brother Arden Berwick and sister-in-law Ada Morris, sister Edna Morris, Melvern Square, daughters, Ruth Morris, Melvern Square; Donna (Rick) Pineo, Welsford; grandchildren, Dorothy (Darren) Jones, Calgary; Emelie Pineo, Annapolis Royal and Donald Pineo, Halifax. Stepchildren, Faye (Joe) Brady, Woodside and Alden (Linda) Neiley, Kingston and their children; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Norene Woodworth; his second wife, Phyllis Parks; sister, Reta Moody and brother-in-law, George Moody. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00PM, Thursday, January 19, 2012 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. The funeral service will be held 2:00PM, Friday, January 20, 2012 in Calvary Baptist Church, 1836 Torbrook Road, Meadowvale, Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Peoples’ Gospel Hour, Halifax or Calvary Baptist Church.
