OBITUARY: Miss Elizabeth Dyas
It was with a feeling of deep regret that this community learned Friday
morning of the passing of one of Parrsboro's most highly respected and
beloved citizens in the person of Miss Elizabeth Dyas. In failing health for
some time she has been a patient in Highland View Hospital, Amherst, since
New Year's Day. To the end she was uncomplaining and displayed the same
Christian qualities of fortitude and patience that characterized her entire
life. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Dyas, the deceased was a
lifelong resident of Parrsboro. As a young woman Miss Dyas studied at an art
school in Boston. Having considerable talent in this line she made painting
one of her past times and several lovely pictures of which she was the
artist, grace the homes of her relatives and friends. Some time ago for
several years she successfully conducted a millinery shop in town. Miss Dyas
was a faithful member of the Baptist Church. At one time she was
superintendent of the Sunday School and was interested and active in all
phases of the church. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. C.W. Jones,
pastor of the Baptist Church, was held from her late residence on Western
Avenue at three o'clock Monday afternoon and was largely attended by
relatives and friends. Interment was in the family lot in the Baptist
Cemetery. Left to mourn her loss are three brothers and two sisters, Burton
Z. Dyas and Charles R. Dyas of Parrsboro; Dr. A.D. Dyas of St. Stephen,
N.B.; (Clara) Mrs. C.E. Bennett of Parrsboro; and (Catherine) Mrs. Kenneth
Cameron of Montreal. Three brothers predeceased her; Dr. Ira Dyas, Rev.
William Dyas and Hibbert Dyas.
