SILLIKER, Isabel Read Of Truro. Passed away May 13, 2002 at her daughter's home in Truro in her 102nd year. Born in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Nettie Gertrude (Oulton) Read. She was educated in the Amherst Public School system and graduated from Branksome Hall School, Toronto and Simmon's College, Boston. She was employed by the Federal Department of National Defence. During her later years, she resided in Kentville, Nova Scotia. She was a lifelong member of the I.O.D.E.; a past member of the Amherst Golf Club; the Lachine Women's Club; the Lachine Lawn Bowling Club; the Women's Auxiliary of the Lachine General Hospital; the Olympic Chapter I.O.D.E.; the Senior Citizen's Club of Kentville; the King's Historical Society and the afternoon Guild of St. James Church, Kentville. Isabel was the devoted mother of Gertrude Crowell (Bryson), Kentville; Margaret Stewart (James), Truro; Carolyn McStravick (Donald); the much loved Nana of Alan (Kelly) Stewart, Scott Stewart, John (Sylvia) McStravick, Judy (Bruce) Dallas, Steven (Nicole) McStravick, all of Ottawa; Gordie (Debbie) Crowell, Hantsport; Stephen (Nanette) Crowell, Bruce (Amy) Stewart, all of Truro, Linda (Bruce) Chaisson, Fall River; Sandra (Francois) Simard, St. Lambert, P.Q., Peter McStravick, Boston. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Charles Read, Iowa City, Iowa and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Wylie Silliker; her brother, Dr. Horace E. Read and her sister, Marion Keirstead. No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville with Rev. John Scott officiating. Interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations to the Victorian Order of Nurses would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro and W.C. Hiltz Funeral Home, Kentville.
