Bernice May Snider nee Coulter 1921-2008

SNIDER BERNICE MAY (nee Coulter) passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 12, 2008, in her 87th year. Bernice was the beloved mother of Gregory, Peter and Virginia, and wonderful Nanny Bea and Grandma to her grandchildren, Morgan, Lauren, Miles, Chelsea and Weston. Bernice was the youngest daughter of Harvel and Margaret (nee MacKenzie) Coulter of Pugwash, Nova Scotia, where she was born on October 1, 1921. She was predeceased by her siblings Byron, Hazel, Percy, Donald and Gordon. Her loving husband of sixty-two years, Edward C. Snider (RCAF ret.) died in 2003. Bernice worked as a legal secretary in Truro, Nova Scotia, before marrying Ed, a young navigator in the RCAF, in his home town of Preston (now Cambridge), Ontario on October 30, 1941. Over the next twenty-seven years and seventeen moves, Bea and Ed set up households and made lifelong friends in Canada, England and the USA, before retiring to Tsawwassen, BC in 1971, where they lived for the next thirty years. Bea was an avid bridge player and golfer (a long-standing member of the Tsawwassen Golf and Country Club) and was affectionately known as the Queen of Garage Sales by her family. She loved gardening and her home on the golf course was always ablaze with flowers; she delighted in the birds that flocked to her backyard feeder. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 16, in The Waterford, 1345-56th Street in Tsawwassen, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, or the Wallace Bay Cemetery, Wallace Bay, NS.
