Obit: Georgie Evelyn Dauphinee

Georgie Evelyn Dauphinee (November 15, 1925 - September 18, 2012), 86, Upper LaHave, passed away Tuesday, Sep. 18, 2012 at South Shore Regional following a brief illness. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Shulie, Cumberland County, Nov. 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Inez (Canning) Mills. She enlisted in the RCAF (Women's Division) during the Second World War. Following the war, she took a business course where she met Donald, her future husband. On Nov. 7, 1950, they were the first couple to be married in the chapel at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax. While living in Halifax and before starting a family, she was employed with the Unemployment Insurance Commission and Maritime Tel & Tel. The family moved to the Annapolis Valley where Donald was stationed with the Black Watch. After he left the Black Watch in 1958, the family moved briefly to Bridgewater and then to Upper LaHave, where she and Donald lived for the remainder of their lives. She was an avid bowler, winning many trophies, and continued to bowl until the age of 80. She also enjoyed trout fishing, golfing and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by daughters Nancy Dauphinee, Crouses Settlement, Susan Joudrey (John), Midville Branch and son Ian Dauphinee, Calgary; grandchildren Megan Atkinson (Sebastian Acosta), Lake Echo, Brian Atkinson, Toronto, Laura Atkinson (Shawn Dopierala), Halifax, Dennis Joudrey, Calgary, Dr. Scott Joudrey, Baton Rouge, Geoffrey Smith, Halifax; and great-granddaughters Sophie Acosta and Lucy Acosta, Lake Echo. She is also survived by sisters Cathy Heighton (Larry), Hilda Hamilton, Prudence Price and brothers Enos Mills, Lawrence Mills and Gerald Mills. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Donald, by sister Marjorie Dunbar and brothers Allison Mills, Billy Mills and Ralph Mills. Her body has been cremated. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, where visitation will be Thursday, 7:00 to 9:00pm and Friday, 2:00 to 4:00pm. Memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 22 , 2012 at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Upper LaHave, Rev. Jane Reid, officiating. Interment immediately afterward at St. Matthew's Cemetery, Upper LaHave. Reception following.
