I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:
March 31, 1932 Springhill Record (received from Kathryn Jeffers):
The death occurred on Saturday a.m. March 19th, at All Saints' Hospital, Springhill, of Shirley Louise, 20 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil H. Mattinson of Springhill Junction, N.S. Shirley became ill on February 26th with intestinal influenza and showing no improvement she was taken to All Saints' Hospital on Thursday, March 10th, for treatment. Meningitis developed on Tuesday the 15th and in spite of every care she passed away early Saturday morning. She leaves to mourn besides her mother and father, one little sister, Elinor, aged 4 years. A short funeral service was held at the home, Springhill Junction, at 12:15 p.m. Monday the 21st, after which the party entrained for Thomson where a further service was held at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mattinson at 2:30 p.m. with burial in Thomson cemetery. Both services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Wright of Wesley United Church, Springhill. The hymns at the Junction
were "When He Cometh" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", and at Thomson, "Around the Throne of God in Heaven," "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" and "God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall." The pall bearers at Springhill Junction were S.A. McPherson and Archie McCabe, and at Thomson were Clarence Weeks and Sterling MacDonald. The floral offerings were very beautiful and were as follows:
Broken Circle: Mother, Daddy, Elinor.
Sprays - Grandpa and Nanna Thompson, Grandpa and Grandma Mattinson and Aunt Mae. Aunt Mary, Uncle Russell, Ronald, Joan and Meryl. Aunt Ida (Mrs. McKenna) Jennie, Tom and Lina. Miss Gates. George and Mabel Knight. The McPherson family. Friends and Station Staff, Springhill Junction. Mrs. Patterson and Grace. Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Patterson. Mr. & Mrs. Chas Treen, Leah and Leyland. Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Lockhart.
There were also numerous cards and letters attesting the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
