I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:
Oct. 25, 1951 Oxford Journal:
The funeral of the late Mrs. Rebecca Mayne was held Friday afternoon, October 19th, at Black's Funeral Home and was largely attended by relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last tribute to their good friend and neighbor. The deceased was born in Mt. Pleasant sixty-seven years ago and spent her life there until five years ago, when she moved to River Philip, where she passed away October 17th. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mattinson of Mt. Pleasant. In 1902 she married Charles Mayne, who predeceased her nineteen years ago. The service was conducted by Rev. M. Burgess, pastor of the Nazarene Church, who spoke comforting words to the bereaved. Assisting him was Rev. B. Nevin, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The text was 2 Corinthian, chapter 4, verse 8. Hymns sung were "Asleep in Jesus", "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" and "Will There be Any Stars in my Crown". Following the ceremony the remains were
conveyed to Birch Grove Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant where interment was made in the family lot. The choir sang "Beyond the Sunset". Pall bearers were Norman Mattinson, Orland Fraser, Orlie Tait, Alden Fahey, Alfred King and Harlan King. Surviving are two sons Herbert and William Mayne, both of Mt. Pleasant, and five daughters, Lottie (Mrs. Alton Wilkinson), Bertha (Mrs. Carl Mills), Georgie (Mrs. Norman Mattinson), all of River Philip; Sadie (Mrs. Orlie Tait) and Jean (Mrs. Orland Fraser) of Oxford. One daughter Mrs. Alden Fahey, predeceased her a year ago. Two other children predeceased her a number of years ago. One sister, Mrs. Maynard King, Oxford and three brothers, James, Clinton and George of Oxford and sixteen grandchildren also survive. The floral tributes were many and beautiful ...
Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
