MATTINSON, Loran Eugene - 90, Gables Lodge, Amherst, died October 23, 1997, in the lodge. Born in Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co., he was the eldest son of the late Albert and Mary (Cloney) Mattinson. He was a school teacher in his early years and was then employed in the lumbering industry until 1943, when the family moved to Amherst. He worked in the war offices of Canada Car until 1946. He retired in 1966 after many years of employment with Canadian Assemblies Ltd., Amherst, to enjoy his garden and family. Surviving are his second wife, the former Beatrice Babcock, Amherst; stepsons, Jim Canton, Truro; Steve Canton, Amherst; daughter, Ghlee (Mrs. Allan Doncaster), Amherst; two grandsons; two granddaughters; brother, Dennis, Mount Pleasant. He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, the former Verna MacDonald; son, Dr. Cyril Mattinson. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, both in Campbell's Funeral Home,
Amherst, Rev. Allan Griffin officiating. Burial to follow in Amherst Cemetery. Donations to Above and Beyond Campaign or any charity.

MONCTON - Mrs. Loran Mattinson, 70, of 32 Harding Avenue, Amherst, died Tuesday in Moncton City Hospital. Born in Amherst, she was the former Verna A. MacDonald, a daughter of the late Peter and Nettie (Goodwin) MacDonald. She was a 50-year member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church and the United Church Women. Surviving are her husband; a son Dr. Cyril, Calgary; a daughter Ghlee (Mrs. Allan Doncaster), Amherst; a sister Mrs. Irene Seeley, Oshawa, Ont.; and four grandchildren. The body is at Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, where funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Walter A. Murray officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery, Amherst.

MATTINSON, Beatrice "Bea" - 88, Springhill, died March 29, 2004, in Springhill. Born in Amherst she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Estabrooks) Babcock. Surviving are sons, James, Stephen; brother, Trueman; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husbands, George Canton and Loran Mattinson; two sisters; two brothers. Visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Cumberland Memorial Chapel, Amherst. Funeral in First Baptist Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial in Christ Church Cemetery. Donations to Christ Church Cemetery or any charity.

SPRINGHILL, NS - Beatrice "Bea" Mattinson, 88 years of age, of High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2004 at the home. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Estabrooks) Babcock. Bea was a member of the Amherst Lioness Club, First Baptist Church and the Greta Grimmer W.M.S. She had worked at The Two Barkers, Sears and the Interprovincal School for the Deaf. Bea is survived by her sons, James Canton (Mayola) of Indian Point, Stephen Canton (fiancee Barbara Barton) of Springhill; a brother, Trueman Babcock of Moncton; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Bea was predeceased by her first husband, George Canton; second husband, Loran Mattinson; sisters, Greta and Lena Babcock; a brother, Ralph and an infant brother, Leonard. Bea's remains are resting at the Cumberland Memorial Chapel in Amherst with visiting hours today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Her
funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Spring burial will take place in the Christ Church Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church Cemetery or to the charity of choice.
