Obit: CURRIE, Irene Marion [née JONES]

Irene Marion Currie (January 19, 1930 - September 13, 2012)
IRENE MARION CURRIE - born Jan. 19, 1930, died suddenly in her sleep at the age of 82 at the Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton on Sept 13 in the early hours of the morning. Born in Newcastle, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Annabelle Jones. Irene, (Rene to most), was the mother of six children. She was pre-deceased by her sons Daniel James and Kenneth Wayne, and her husband, James Albert M. Currie. Also pre-deceased by brothers, George and Joseph Jones, and sister Louise Sullivan. Survived by her children, Allan and wife Irene, granddaughter Lianne of Montreal; Deborah Currie and life partner Susan Reid; Ruth Currie, husband Charlie Chambers and grandson Oliver James Black; and youngest son Derrick Currie, all of Amherst. Granddaughter Natasha Currie-Blitt, husband Jonathan Blitt and great grandson Jordan, of Montreal.  Also survived by sister, Katherine Johnstone of Fredericton and sister in law Grace Jones of Miramichi and many
nieces, nephews, extended family (including many International grandchildren) and friends throughout Canada. Rene had been the matriarch of the family with such strength and courage that she left many in awe. Although Irene moved many times throughout her life between Upper and Eastern Canada, no matter where she relocated her family she immediately made the house a home filled with love. Irene worked at Eaton’s in Moncton before marrying. While living in Amherst, she volunteered at the VON flu clinic and Autumn House. Rene’s compassion for others, faith and clever sense of humour allowed her to connect with anyone - "they all love me here!"  Irene lived her later years at the Kenneth Spencer Nursing Home and Georges L. Dumont Hospital, in Moncton.  The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of both health care centres as well as the VON, homecare workers in Amherst. She battled kidney disease for many
years, undergoing dialysis the past four years. Cremation has taken place.
