Obit (1917) - John Nelson MATTINSON

I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:

>From an unknown newsaper:
Mr. John N. Mattinson of Mount Pleasant passed away Friday afternoon, aged 66 years.  He lived with his only son, Albert Mattinson.  Though not very well of late years, he was energetic and chopped in the woods this winter, and his last illness was of about two weeks.  The funeral was on Monday afternoon, Rev. P.R. Hayden officiating.

NOTE:  I believe this refers to John Nelson Mattinson (28-Feb-1851 - 9-Mar-1917) s/o Joseph B. Mattinson & Margaret Clarke.

And here is the previously posted obituary for his son from the May 26, 1960 Oxford Journal:

Mt. Pleasant, May 25 - The death occurred May 18, at All Saints Hospital, Springhill, of Albert E. Mattinson, highly esteemed resident of this community.  Mr. Mattinson had undergone an operation at the Victoria General Hospital over a year ago but failed to make a recovery.  He was the son of the late John N. Mattinson and Nancy Simpson Mattinson, both of Mt. Pleasant.  He was born Jan 7, 1883, at Mt. Pleasant and was a life-long resident of that place.  His kind and gentle disposition and ready humor won him the respect of all who knew him.  He is survived by his wife, the former Mary B. Cloney of Mt. Pleasant, two sons Lorne of Amherst and Dennis at home, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  The funeral was held at Black's Funeral Home Saturday, May 21, with Rev. C.R. Moase and Rev. F. Pauley in charge of the service.  The hymns sung were "Beulah Land" favourite of the deceased and "The Lord's My Shepherd".  The pall bearers were
Donald Cloney, John Hewson, Alden Fahey, Eugene Dickie and Harris Dickie.  Following the service interment took place in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant.  The many lovely floral tributes, contributions and cards of sympathy bore silent testimony tot he esteem in which the deceased was held.

Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
