Obit (1957) - George Francis MATTINSON

I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:

Jan. 17, 1957 Oxford Journal:
Pugwash - The death of a well known resident of Pugwash, George Francis Mattinson, occurred Thursday, January 3rd, following a long period of ill health.  Born at Thomson Station in 1878 Mr. Mattinson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Mattinson.  He later moved to Springhill and from there to Pugwash where he has resided for the past fifty-five years.  He is survived by a son Murrell of London, Ont.  Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Charles Akerley and two brothers, Charles and Fred, all of Pugwash.  His wife, the former Winnifred Doyle, predeceased him in 1951.  He was a member of the United Church.  The funeral held Sunday afternoon from the home of his brother, Charles Mattinson, was conducted by Rev. Ellis Boyd, pastor of the United Church.  The hymns "Unto The Hills" and "Will Your Anchor Hold" were sung by a combined choir with Mrs. M.A. Gillis accompanist.  Irving Mundle was funeral director.  The pallbearers were E.D.
Fullerton, H.R. Hollis, H.A. Smith and Everett Mundle.  Interment was in the Pugwash Cemetery.  There were many beautiful floral tributes.

Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
