Because I'm not researching the Collins family, I was not paying attention and have completely lost track of what has been posted in the past few hours and or days; however, here are two obituaries that may help you or other Collins researchers:
August 4, 1992 Halifax Chronicle Herald:
COLLINS, John William Sr. (Casey) - 89, Amherst, formerly of Maccan, Cumberland County, died August 2, 1992, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Wallace Bridge, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late William and Mary (Haley) Collins. In his younger years, he was employed with Canada Electric Company, Chignecto, Cumberland County, later transferring to Maccan Power Plant, retiring in 1967. Following retirement, he worked with Waldale, Amherst for approximately 10 years. Interested in sports, he managed the ice rink in Maccan and was former manager of Maccan Royals baseball club. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 134, Maccan. He is survived by his wife, the former Edwena McLellan; two daughters, Frances (Mrs. Harry Dunlop), Amherst, with whom he resided; Alice (Mrs. Logan Dwyer), Maccan; two sons, John, Amherst; Robert, Maccan; two sisters, Margaret Hurley, Effie Dunlop, both of Maccan; 18 grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Laurie; two sisters, Katherine, Lillian; three brothers, Charles, Herbert, Burton; grandson, Perry Collins; great-granddaughter, Tammy Rolfe. Funeral will be 1 p.m. today in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, Rev. James Fraser officiating. Burial will be in Maccan Cemetery. Donations may be made to Maccan United Church or any charity.
November 11, 1996 Halifax Chronicle Herald:
COLLINS, John William - 70, 7 Summit Ave., Amherst, formerly of Maccan, died November 9, 1996, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Chignecto, he was a son of the late John and Winnie (McLellan) Collins. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst. He had been employed with Atlas Van Lines and Lorne Costin Paving. Surviving are daughters, Jane Bartley, Mary (Mrs. David Dowe), Amherst; Carol (Mrs. Royden Pitman), Heather Pitman, Yarmouth; Susan Dowe, Warren, Cumberland Co.; sons, Roy, Salisbury, N.B.; Frank, Maccan; sisters, Alice Dwyer, Maccan; Frances Dunlop, Amherst; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Laurie, Perry; brother, Laurie. Funeral 2 p.m. today in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Burial in Maccan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Cumberland Early
Intervention or any charity.
