I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:
Dec. 28, 1949 Amherst Daily News:
PUGWASH, Dec. 27 - The citizens of this town were shocked to learn on Saturday Dec. 17 of the passing of Miss Ethel Mattinson at the Out-Post Hospital here, following a short illness. The deceased was born at Springhill in 1888, youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Mattinson and removed with the family to Pugwash about fifty years ago. She is survived by three brothers, George, Fred and Charles and one sister, Mrs. Charles Akerley, all of Pugwash. Two other sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth, passed some years ago. The funeral was held from the home of her brother Charles on Monday Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. Her pastor, Rev. J.M. Sproule, was the officiating clergyman giving a very comforting address. Hymns sung were "Unto the Hills", Same in the arms of Jesus" and "Shall we Meet Beyond the River". The pall bearers were Wm. McKiel, Don Demings, John Peers, Morton Carter, Ron Smith and Merrill Reid. Her passing is felt as a great loss
to the United Church of which she was a faithful member. She was a life member of the W.M. Society, sang in the Church Choir for 40 years, and was organist for the Sunday School for 30 years. In fact there was no part of the Church work in which she was not interested, always ready to do her part. Irving Mundle was funeral director. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
