September 20, 1973 accident report from the Oxford Journal:
Donald Mattinson, 33, lost his life and Ralph Miller, 23, was critically injured when their car left the highway at Salt Lake on Friday night, Sept. 14th. They were driving up Main Street, Oxford, when their car left the road, struck a telephone pole and then crashed side-on into the cribwork where Salt Brook runs out of Salt Lake. Mr. Mattinson died at the scene and Mr. Miller was rushed to Highland View Hospital, Amherst, where his condition is critical and he had still failed to regain consciousness yesterday.
Mr. Miller is a son of Mrs. Dewey Miller of Toronto, and the late Dewey Miller.
Mr. Mattinson was the youngest son of Mrs. James Mattinson of Toronto and the late Mr. Mattinson. He was born in Oxford and lived here as a boy, until his parents moved to Toronto 17 years ago. He was planning to move back to Oxford. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Alice Morin of Toronto; five children, Mark, Steven, Terry, Richard and Dorie Lynn, all at home, and six brothers, Lewis, Kolbec; Lawson, Toronto; Glen, Toronto; Robert, Toronto; Dewey (Duke), Oxford; Ted, Lorne, Pictou Co., and Guy of Ameliasburg, Ont., and three sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Alex MacDonald), Toronto; Vonda (Mrs. Edward Blanchard), Pickering, Ont., and Ella Mae (Mrs. Clifford Redmond), Beaton, Ont. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, and was very largely attended. The service was conducted by Rev. Bert Collins, pastor of Oxford Church of the Nazarene. The hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross" and
"The Last Mile of the Way". Burial took place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. The pallbearers were Clinton Mattinson, Douglas Mattinson, Guy Mattinson, Sr., Shelly Mattinson, Guy Mattinson, Jr., and Donald Dobson.

Oxford - The death of Donald Mattinson occurred Sept. 14 due to a car accident, he was 33 years of age. Born at Oxford, Cumb. Co., he was the youngest son of Mrs. James Mattinson and the late James Mattinson and has been a resident of Toronto, Ont., for the past 17 years. He was planning to move back to Oxford. He was an employee of the Cobequid Lumber Co. at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Morin of Toronto, five children, Mark, Steven, Terry, Richard and Dorie Lynn ranging in age from fourteen to five years, all at home and seven brothers, Lewis, Kolbec; Lawson, Toronto; Glen, Toronto; Robert, Toronto; Dewey, Mt. Pleasant; Ted, Lorne, Pictou Co., and Guy of Ameliasburg, Ont., and three sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Alex MacDonald), Toronto; Vonda (Mrs. Edward Blanchard), Pickering, Ont., and Ella Mae (Mrs. Clifford Redmond), Beaton, Ont. The funeral was held Sept. 18th at 2 p.m. at Black's Funeral Home. The
service was conducted by Rev. Bert Collins of the Church of the Nazarene. The choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Last Mile of the Way". Rev. Collins brought a comforting message from the Psalms. Pallbearers were Clinton Mattinson, Douglas Mattinson, Guy Mattinson, Sr., Sheldon Mattinson, Guy Mattinson, Jr., and Donald Dobson. There were many lovely floral and monetary tributes also donations to the Cancer Society. Burial took place in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
