Well-known Educator Mrs. Ronald Smith dies
Truro-- Mrs. Ronald Smith, of 357 Prince Street, died Sunday in Colchester county Hospital, Truro.
Born in Parrsboro, she was the former Ruth C. M. Bigelow, a daughter of the late Capt. Edgar and
Clara (Carter) Bigelow. Until her retirement, she was engaged in the field of education, teaching in
Parrsboro and Truro schools, Truro Normal College, and Dalhousie University's Education Department.
She held executive positions in Cumberland County and Dartmouth school systems, and was awarded the
Canadian Centennial Medal for her contributions to education. She was a graduate of the University of
New Brunswick and Boston University.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald, two nieces: Heather (Mrs. George Porter), Waterloo, Ont; and
Susan (Mrs. Nicholas Brown), Fairfield, CT. She was predeceased by a sister, Linda (Mrs. Roy Anderson).
Burial in Dilligent River cemetery. Memorials to Canadian Cancer Society.
