Kathleen Anne Rae Kathy Rae died in Moncton, peacefully at home, August 24, 2006. Born and raised in Springhill, N.S., Kathy moved to Halifax and attended Mount Saint Vincent University. She then began her career with Imperial Oil as a receptionist/stenographer, and, through hard work and dedication, was rewarded with promotions to management-level positions of ever-increasing responsibility. Her diagnosis with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) cut short her career, and she retired in 2004, after 27 years service. Kathy loved animals, and none more than her faithful dog Meadow, who always managed to make her smile, even on the most difficult days of her illness. She had a keen interest in evolution, as well as animal and, particularly, bird behavior. Her extensive study of these subjects resulted in a level of expertise that probably rivaled that of some experts in these fields. Kathy also enjoyed boating, and with her partner Skip, spent many happy summer days exploring the numerous uninhabited islands and beaches of Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. She also loved to travel, and especially enjoyed the landscape of the American Southwest, the rainforests and wildlife of Costa Rica, the people of North Africa, and the art and architecture of Europe. Special thanks to all those whose hard work so improved her quality of life and enabled Kathy to attain her goal of staying home throughout her illness: her dedicated super-nurse Patti Flanagan, who stayed with her through her toughest of times; family physician Dr. Manon Belliveau, a compassionate professional who somehow always made Kathy feel like she was her only patient; and, of course, the entire team of wonder women at Extra-Mural. Kathy is survived by her loving partner, George (Skip) Wallin, her mother, Ardath Rae, Springhill, N.S., sister Alison and nephew Nathan, both of Halifax. She was predeceased by her father Aubrey. A celebration of Kathy's life will take place at her home on Saturday, September 2nd, from 2 to 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy's memory can be made to the ALS Society of New Brunswick or the Moncton SPCA. Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) in care of arrangements. www.fergusonknowlesfh.com
