Obit (1980) - Sherman MacKAY

I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:

Aug. 11, 1980 Halifax Chronicle Herald:
AMHERST - Sherman MacKay, 73, of 54 West Victoria Street, Amherst, died Friday in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst.  Born at Tidnish Cross Roads, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late John and Jessie (MacPhee) MacKay.  He was a retired building contractor.  He owned and operated Sherman MacKay Ltd., working in the Amherst area for 23 years before retiring in 1970.  He was a member and steward of Tidnish Bridge United Church, a 32nd degree Mason of Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 8, a honorary member of Westmoreland Masonic Lodge, and was past president of the Amherst Shrine Club.  He was a 35-year member of the IOOF Ivy Lodge No. 35, and was president of Riverside Cemetery Committee.

He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Ansel Smith), Amherst, and Ruth (Mrs. Chesley Beal), Salem; a sister, Sadie (Mrs. Roger Goldwaithe) Lowell, Mass., three brothers, James, Framingham, Mass.; Herman, Sun City, Fla.; Joshua, East Amherst; and four grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ette Chappell, and a brother Barker.  The body is in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Rev. Eldon Gunn officiating.  Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Acacia Lodge No. 8.
