Curtis Albert Erb 1930 - 2001
ERB, Curtis A. - 71, Western Avenue, Parrsboro passed away peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2001, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Parrsboro, he was the son of the late George and Lena (Yorke) Erb. Curtis' early years were spent on the family dairy farm while he attended school in Parrsboro. During his teen years, he went to work on a diamond drill in Northern Ontario, and later on the Gold Coast of West Africa. He then worked with the Nova Scotia Department of Mines for several years before turning to blueberry farming. Since he began the blueberry farm with his wife in 1956, he has continued to operate Curtis Erb Blueberries as a family business, working closely with Oxford Frozen Foods. In 1999, Curtis was honored by the Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia as a pioneer of the blueberry industry. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Barbara MacLeod; daughters, Dayle Hoeg and her husband, Gerald, Athol;
Helen Handley and her husband, Bob, Amherst; Lynne and her husband, Kyle, Parrsboro; sons, Stephen and his wife, Terry, Parrsboro; Neil, Lower Sackville; Albert and his companion, Mary-Lynn Yorke, Parrsboro; sister, Frances McLeod and her companion, Ralph McElmon, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Matthew Hoeg (Crystal), Southampton; Adrianna and Bethany Hoeg, both of Athol; Rorey, South Korea; Ryan and Gillian Handley, both of Amherst; Josh, Dylan and Lauren Hebb, all of Parrsboro; Shane and Jarrett Erb, Lower Sackville; Brandon, Jordan and Taryn Erb, all of Parrsboro; great-grandchildren, Katie, Taylor and Connor Hoeg, Southampton; Jenson Hoeg, Athol; several nieces and nephews. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday in Parrsboro Baptist Church, Rev. Jeffrey White officiating. Burial in Parrsboro Baptist Cemetery. OBITUARY: Captain George W. Erb
Parrsboro - Captain George W. Erb, 72, of Parrsboro, died Tuesday in the
Parrsboro hospital. Born in Gimseg, N.B., he was the son of the late Albert
and Myrna (Olmstead) Erb. He is survived by his wife, the former Lena York;
a daughter, Frances (Mrs. Maxwel MacLeod), Dartmouth; a son, Curtis ,
Parrsboro; eight grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle (Mrs. Frank Yould), Truro.
The body is at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will
be held Friday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Hazen Benanson [sic] officiating. Burial
will be in the Baptist Church Cemetery, Parrsboro.
