I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:
Nov, 16, 1972 Oxford Journal:
Springhill - A wide circle of friends mourned the passing of Mrs. Carolyn Jean (Mattinson) Letcher, widow of the late Col. William Letcher, who made her home at 228 McGee St., Springhill. Mrs. Letcher died in All Saints' Hospital on October 29, 1972. She was 88.
The daughter of the late John Wesley Mattinson and Cynthia Orchard, she was born in Oxford, N.S., on June 20th, 1884. She received her early schooling at Conns Mills and later in a Truro business college, and for some years served as book-keeper. On September 29th, 1909, she became the bride of the late Colonel William Letcher.
Left to mourn her passing are two daughters: Christine (Mrs. Emile Hepper), Marysville, B.C., and Patricia (Mrs. Douglas Parker) Springhill, N.S. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
The remains rested at Brown's Funeral Home, where many old friends called to pay their last respects. The Rev. G. Boyd Butt conducted the funeral service at the Parlour on Wednesday, November 1st, at 2 p.m., assisted by the choir of St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church which sang two favorites of the deceased, "The 23rd Psalm" and "Unto The Hills".
Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Pallbearers were Messrs. Bert Chapman, Carl Chapman, James Hatton, Harold Henwood, Cyril Hollis and Chesley Walsh.
Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
