Obit: LEWIS, Claude Raymond

Lewis, Claude Raymond – 93, Upper Economy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family August 30, 2012. Born in Bass River, August 17, 1919 he was the son of the late Russell Lewis and Emily(Colburne) Lewis. After attending school in Bass River he and his close friend Don Fulton took up their first employment at a sawmill in Harrison Settlement. Looking for an adventure, he left the mill and set out for Quebec, where he worked in the Perron Goldmine for a season. Returning home he took up carpentry with his father. In 1941, he went overseas serving with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Winnipeg. When he returned in 1946 he resumed his life long trade as a Carpenter. In 1947 he married Annie Louise Elliott. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Thunder Jack and his long time friends at the Truro Mall. He is survived by daughters, Heather Archibald, Crowes Mills,
Cheryl (David) Boyd, Glenholme, four grandchildren, Corey Archibald, Squamish, B.C, Sarah Jane (Bradley) Ayotte, Truro, Elliott Boyd and Brody “Opey” Boyd, both of Glenholme, sister Margaret “Peggy” Andrews (Cecil Blair), Truro; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 41 years Annie (Elliott) Lewis and brother, Gerald Lewis. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 2nd, Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, from 6 – 8 pm with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service, Cobequid Branch 72 at 5:45 p.m. Memorial service Monday, September 3rd 3:00 pm at Riverside United Church, Bass River, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Interment in Economy Cemetery with reception to follow at the Riverside United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Memorial Park, Bass River. On-line condolences may be made at www.colchestercommunity.com.

OBITUARY: Lewis, Annie Louise - 74, Upper Economy, Colchester County, died Monday at home. Born in Pleasant Hills, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Sarah (Hudson) Elliott. She  was a long time resident of Upper Economy, a member of Riverside United Church, Bass River, and Bass River Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her husband, Claude; two daughters, Heather Archibald, Crowes Mills; Sheryl (Mrs. David Boyd), Glenholm; a brother, John, Economy; two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Bernice; two brothers, Edmond, Ira. The body is in Riverside United Church, Bass River, where funeral will be held 2 p.m., today, Rev. Robert Mack officiating, assisted by Rev. Daniel Gunn. Burial in Economy Cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or any charity.
