Obit (1944) - Harry Chase KNIGHT

I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:

July 20, 1944 Oxford Journal:
The death of Harry Chase Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Knight, Oxford, which occurred in the N.S. Sanitorium, Kentville, on July 12th, was learned of with regret by his many friends here.  His passing took place after a long illness following an attack of pleurisy while in England with the 3rd Canadian Armored Division.  Harry was born at Hansford 23 years ago but had lived in Oxford since he was two years old.  Prior to his enlistment, he was a popular member of the staff of Davis & Swan.
He is survived by his sorrowing father and mother, three sisters, Euda, at home, Etta (Mrs. J.W. Maddison) Springhill, Elsie (Mrs. Raymond Cormier) Oxford, and one brother, John, at home.
A military funeral was conducted from his late home on Saturday afternoon with members of the Oxford Company of the N.N.S.H. Reserve, under Capt. R.D. Russell, in attendance.  The service was conducted by Rev. E. Davis of Trinity United Church, who brought a message of comfort to the mourners.  He was assisted by Rev. L.B. Estabrooks, Rev. R.T. Sellick and Rev. J.A. Hart.  The hymns sung were "Rock of Ages", "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Nearer My God to Thee".
The pallbearers were William Wood, Capt. R.D. Russell, Lt. P.H. Swan, Harry Chase, Jr., Claude Wood and Victor Marchant.  Mr. Frank Black was funeral director.
Members of the Reserve Army marched in the procession to Pine Grove Cemetery, where the deceased was buried with military honors.  A firing party under the direction of Q.M.S. Thomas Sim fired three volleys and the Last Post and Reveille were sounded.
Many beautiful floral tributes bearing silent witness to the esteem in which Harry was held by those who knew him, as well as cards and messages of sympathy, were received.
   [A listing of tributes followed]

Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
