Obit (1970) - Lewis Arthur THORNTHWAITE (h/o Minetta Priscil_ la KING)

I don't think the following obituary has been posted before:

Aug. 6, 1970 Oxford Journal:
The town of Oxford and surrounding area was greatly shocked and deeply saddened, Thursday, July 23, by the passing of Lewis A. Thornthwaite, a well known, and highly respected citizen of the town.  He was born in Oxford sixty-four years ago, son of the late John Thornthwaite and Clara (Thompson) Thornthwaite.
During his life he was an interior decorator and painter, as well as a local barber, until about six years ago when he was forced to retire due to ill health.  He was an adherent of the United Church, a man with a quiet and kindly disposition, and a great lover of music, thus making him a valued relative, friend and neighbour.
In 1934 he married Minetta King of Mount Pleasant, who is left to mourn his loss, as well as several cousins.
The largely attended funeral service was held from Black's Funeral Home, Sunday, July 26, with Rev. Aubrey Tizzard officiating.
A mixed choir with Mrs. Douglas Thompson as organist, sang hymns, "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" and "Beyond the Sunset".  She also rendered a solo, "How Great Thou Art".
The pallbearers were neighbours of the deceased Floyd Fraser, Hazen Dixon, Richard Simpson, Brian Brown, Shirley and Rufus Black.
The profusion of beautiful floral tributes, Gideon Bibles, contributions to the Heart Fund, Cancer Society, Monetary gifts and many expressions of sympathy, were evidence of the sympathy extended.
Interment was in the family lot in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Hope this helps someone,
Gerry
