Maggie LANGILLE of River John recently celebrated her 101st birthday at Shiretown Nursing Home
in Pictou. She is the oldest member of the Wallace River Baptist Church.

Friends and family of Nina ROBLEE gathered at the Collingwood United Church on July 15 to help
her celbrate her 80th birthday. Mrs. Roblee was a correspondent for The Oxford Journal for about
30 years.

Staff of Oxford Frozen Foods Ltd. hosted a retirement party for two of its employees on July 13;
Elaine LAKE is retiring with 19 years of service, and Jeanne SMITH with 21 years.

Died - Jessie Mae CARTER, 78, West Leicester, July 13.
Died - Meghan Candace Patricia MATTIX, 26, Springhill, July 9.

Wednesday, July 22, 1992.

A new CN railway bridge to be constructed over the Trans Canada Highway just east of Oxford
should be in operation by the fall of 1993, the same time the twinning of the highway through
that area is scheduled for completion.

Died - Herbert Lewallen WILLIAMS, 61, Port Howe, July 13.

Purchase of the Fort Cumberland Hotel, Amherst, for conversion into a senior citizens housing
complex, has been announced by Agriculture Minister Roger BACON.

Died - Mrs. Gladys Irene (Colburne) KEITH, 88, formerly of Oxford, July 14.

Thursday, July 24, 1952.

A new sound screen has been installed at the Capitol Theatre, Oxford.

The auditorium of Oxford's new Regional High School has been completed and masonry work on the
remainder of the building is nearing completion.

Thursday, July 23, 1942.

Donald COATES, 11-year-old son of Mrs. May Coates, Roslin, was badly cut by the cutter bar of a
mowing machine on July 16.

A surprise province-wide blackout was held on July 16 from 10:13 to 10:35.

Died - Mr. Cecil MILLER, 39, Springhill, July 19.
Died - Mrs. Mansfield O'BRIEN, 62, resident of Middleboro, July 20.
