Myrna TRENHOLM, Pugwash, received a Holland Medal from Lt. Col. Leo van den Heuvel on behalf of
her late father, Curtis H. WILLIAMS, a decorated WWII veteran. Ralston RIPLEY of River Philip
received a Canadian flag from Holland native Annie LAMONT.
Died - Elizabeth Frances "Lilly" MACKEY, 98, formerly of Springhill, July 3.
Died - Ethel Elaine PERRIN, 83, Tatamagouche, July 2.

Rod MACDONALD of Oxford was one of three Corrections Canada employees from across the country
and the only one from Atlantic Canada to be included as one of the 75 invited guests at a formal
luncheon with Queen Elizabeth II in Rideau Hall, Ottawa, July 1.
Petty Officer Second Class Alan S. BERRY, C.D., presently stationed with the Militia
Headquarters in Halifax, has been transferred to the United Nations Headquarters, New York City,
as the assistant to the Canadian Military Advisor to the United Nations and with the Canadian
Ambassador to the United Nations.
Anne PIERCEY, B.A., C.F.L.S., B.Ed., daughter of Ethel and George Piercey, Oxford, leaves for
Yokosuka, Japan in August, where she has accepted a teaching position with Matty's School of
English.

The boiler room and coal shed at the former Oxford Woollen Mills is being demolished and the
tall brick chimney will also be torn down. The property is now owned by the Cumberland County
Exhibition.
Frank CRAFTS, River Philip, is building another large henhouse, 112 by 38 feet.

At a combined meeting of the Boards of Trade of Northumberland Strait towns of River John, Hon
Merrill D. ROWDING, Minister of Highways, assured the group that the Sunrise Trail will be paved
but not before 1954.
Ethel DICKIE was installed as Noble Grand of Colfax Rebekah Lodge, Oxford, on July 8 and Jean
DIXON as Vice-Grand.

The Oxford Market which has been operated by Mr. Chesley M. WALSH for the past several months
has been closed.
Quite a number of local young men have been called up for compulsory military training.
No. 3 Platoon of the North N.S. Highlanders (reserve), under the command of Lieut. R.D. RUSSELL,
was on maneuvers in the vicinity of Hudson's Corner last Sunday.
