About 125 residents of Sunset Adult Residential Centre were evacuated Wednesday evening, July 1,
shortly after 8 p.m., when the electrical system was damaged by lightning.

A memorial tribute in honor of Simon NEWCOMB took place Sunday, July 9, at Wallace Bridge. Born
in Wallace Bridge, Simon Newcomb moved to the United States at age 18 and later became the
leading astronomer of the 19th century.
Total darkness was experienced here shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday when there was a total
eclipse of the sun.

River Philip United Church observed its 100th anniversary on June 10.
The 50th annual Christian Conference was held at Pugwash Jct. Gospel Hall on June 30, July 1 and 2.
Cpl. H. Al MARLOWE, Mrs. Marlowe and son Kirk of Pugwash have moved to Guysborough where Cpl.
Marlowe will be in charge of the RCMP detachment.
Died - Mrs. Dora WRATHALL, 93, Wallace Station, June 12.

Oxford Fire Department was called to Heather Beach on July 4 when a burning haystack on the farm
of Chris CHRISTENSEN threatened several cottagers.
The position of Thomas CARROLL, freight handler at Oxford Station, is being discontinued and his
staff will be reduced to only the Station Agent, Jerry MACLEAN.
Died - William OXLEY, 92, North Wallace, June 23.
