David M. DeWitt (February 15, 1947 - August 25, 2012)
The death of David Melbourne DeWitt age 65 of Chapman Settlement occurred peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born February 15, 1947 in Amherst, David was a son of the late Melbourne and Ella (Allen) DeWitt. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by his beloved children, Darrin (Shawna) DeWitt, Chapman Settlement, Andrea DeWitt, Toronto ON, Terrance Legere, Oromocto NB, Kyle Legere, Amherst, Dave (Storm) DeWitt, Sooke BC and Nicholas Legere, Amherst; special grandchildren, Caitlin, Kyle, Nathan, Justin, Wyatt, Emily and Cohen; great granddaughter, Jaida; sisters, Pamela (Lannie) Patterson, Tidnish Bridge, Janice DeWitt, Niagara Falls and Sharilyn (Kirk) Williams, Bermuda; as well as nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and family. David always loved the sea. He joined the Navy at an early age, where he traveled the world serving on the H.M.S. Bonaventure. Later in
life he was a self employed lobster fisherman. David was an avid sports-man, he loved the outdoors. He was an excellent hunter and angler; He delighted in teaching these skills to his children and grandchildren. David was a big Toronto Blue Jay and Detroit Red Wing fan and enjoyed watching these games. Music was a big part of David’s life. He donated much of his time playing for benefits and other events as he loved to help others. David shared his passion for music with his family, friends and all who loved him. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS. There will be no visitation. A celebration of David’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Spencer’s Island Union Church in Spencer’s Island, NS with Dr. Keith McMullin presiding. Donations in David’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Online condolences may
