NICHOLS, Arthur Freeman
85, Ship Harbour, passed away suddenly at home on Friday April 10, 2009. He was a son of the late Charles and Greta Nichols. He began work very early in life, first delivering ice for Carter's Ice Company, then joining Woodlawn Dairy. He later moved to DND, Shearwater, where he retired in 1981. Arthur was a veteran of the Second World War serving in continental Europe with the 21st Group of the Royal Canadian Army. He was initiated as a member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, Harbour Lodge in 1949. Arthur is survived by his wife, Anne (Stevens); stepson, "Don" Charles Alvin Briand; daughter, Diane Mullins; sisters, Ruth Goldsworthy, Porters Lake; Barbara LePelley, Boston; grandsons, Blaine, Corey, Neil, and Scott; granddaughter, Leah, and great-grandsons, Keiji and Hiroto. He was predeceased by brother, Melvin and sisters, Margaret, Helen and Evelyn. Cremation has taken place. A brief service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Twin Oaks Hospital. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Wayne Brown, staff of the EMHS and Home Care Services, with special thanks to Pearl and Kathy Bayers for their support.
