After 99 years and four generations, the SWAN name will no longer be associated with a grocery
business in Oxford. Atlantic Wholesalers has bought the Oxford Save Easy with the official
takeover on September 1.

The Cumberland, Colchester and East Hants Seniors Councils held a joint recognition ceremony in
Wentworth on August 25 where Jim and Madeline MONT were presented with certificates of appreciation.

Died - Emma Catherine BAILLIE, 89, Tatamagouche Mountain, August 23.
Died - Stanley Evans ALLEN, 64, East Wallace, August 23.
Died - Sherman Ellis MITCHELL, 89, Pugwash, August 22.

Seventy Years Ago
Thursday, August 21, 1941.

Major E.G. GILES of River Philip, has been appointed the new training chief for Saskatchewan
military districts. Prior to his appointment to MD 12 he was attached to MD 6 as officer in
charge of tradesmen training.

Charles CHESNUTT of Pugwash River had the misfortune of being knocked to the ground and severley
cut in the forehead by the lever of a moving machine which released when he accidently touched
the foot trip while reaching for the oil can. Eleven stitches were required to close the wound.

STEWART, Vincent Elliott, 85, Amherst, Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Born in Amherst, son of the
late Harold and Ella (Anderson) Stewart. In 1946, he married Florence Smith, of Shinimicas.
Survived by half-brother Robert Stewart, Oxford; step-brother Roger Weeks, Oxford; cousins Betty
Anderson, Halifax; Joyce Bowles, Toronto. Predeceased by wife Florence (Smith); infant son;
cousin Eugene Anderson.
